What is Scoliosis and More | The FIX24 System

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with scoliosis, you may be feeling a range of emotions, from confusion and fear to determination and hope. Scoliosis is a condition that affects the curvature of the spine, and it can occur in people of all ages.

In this blog post, we will discuss what scoliosis is, how it is caused, and how to prevent it. We will also provide information about scoliosis treatment options for those who have been diagnosed with scoliosis.

What is scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a condition that affects the curvature of the spine. The spine normally has a gentle S-shaped curve, but in people with scoliosis, the spine can have a more pronounced curve or even develop a C-shaped or reversed S-shaped curve. Scoliosis can occur in people of all ages, but it is most commonly diagnosed in children and adolescents. It is estimated that up to three percent of the population has scoliosis.

What causes scoliosis?

Let’s first establish an analogy for understanding scoliosis. In the case of building blocks that are square. As they are stacked in place, this creates a straight column.

When one block is wedged up on one side, everything above deviates, and the column is no longer straight. This is basic mechanical engineering known as the level foundation principle.

When a vertebra is not mechanically level, an unlevel foundation is formed, and when under load, compensatory curvatures develop throughout the mechanical spinal column.

There are two reasons for having scoliosis, you are either born with unlevel spinal malformations or it is acquired through trauma, and the vertebra shifts to being unlevel.

How to prevent scoliosis?

Understanding that the spinal column is a mechanical entity and is subjected to the laws of physics, including Entropy… the measure of disorder, people can care for their spine in a mechanical manner. Early detection and treatment of the condition can help prevent the progression of the curve and improve the quality of life for those affected by scoliosis.

Treatment options for scoliosis

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with scoliosis, there are several treatment options available. Treatment options include:

  • Observation: In some cases, doctors may choose to simply observe the progression of the curve. This is most common in mild cases of scoliosis.
  • Physical therapy: Physical therapy can help to improve flexibility and muscle strength, which can help slow the progression of scoliosis.
  • Bracing: A brace can be worn to support the spine and prevent further curvature.
  • Surgery: In severe cases of scoliosis, surgery may be necessary to correct the curvature of the spine.
  • But most importantly, determine if the reason is biomechanical trauma or congenital malformations. The level foundation principle can be determined by the FIX24 System.

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with scoliosis, it is important to discuss treatment options with FIX24. Early detection and treatment of the condition can help prevent the progression of the curve and improve the quality of life for those affected by scoliosis.
